AI Tooling Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled AI Tooling Engineer based in Saudi Arabia to develop and enhance an internal AI platform that seamlessly integrates company knowledge, data, and tools within a secure environment. Collaborating closely with a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for building production-grade AI agents and integrations that empower employees and their AI assistants to efficiently access necessary information. This role encompasses full ownership of the development lifecycle from initial needs assessment and solution design through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with the Principal Engineer to design, develop, and deliver new platform features, taking projects from concept to production deployment.
• Connect internal systems and SaaS applications by integrating APIs and data sources, crafting shared data models, and implementing suitable access control mechanisms.
• Develop AI agents and supporting tools, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers that enable organization-wide agent interactions with internal systems and context retrieval.
• Enhance workflows involving data retrieval, tool invocation, embeddings, prompt engineering, and context management to produce precise and valuable AI outputs.
• Set and uphold rigorous AI quality standards using evaluation datasets, benchmarks, regression tests, tracing, and observability methods.
• Track and optimize performance metrics such as cost per answer and token consumption by refining models, prompts, and workflows for maximal efficiency and dependability.
• Resolve production challenges, incorporate user feedback, and drive ongoing platform improvements based on real-world usage data.
• Convert prototypes into secure, scalable cloud-based applications with appropriate infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and robust identity and access management.
• Incorporate AI coding agents within the development workflow while enforcing high software quality standards through clear specifications, automated testing, code reviews, and solid engineering principles.
• Contribute to enterprise-wide AI tooling strategies, including evaluating, standardizing, monitoring usage and costs, and defining guidelines for AI-driven applications.
• Assist other teams in leveraging and building upon the platform to create effective AI-powered processes and internal solutions.
• Engage collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize enhancements, and clearly communicate technology solutions.

Candidate Requirements

• A minimum of three years’ experience delivering production software solutions, primarily using Python and relational database technologies.
• Demonstrable experience in developing and deploying at least one live production AI agent using LangGraph technology.
• Hands-on expertise in AI agent mechanics including tool calling, data retrieval and embedding techniques, prompt engineering, and context design.
• Practical knowledge of Large Language Model (LLM) APIs from leading providers, including experience managing tokens and controlling operational costs.
• Familiarity with MCP or similar tool protocol implementations as both servers and clients.
• Strong grasp of AI evaluation methods such as test dataset design, LLM-as-judge techniques, regression testing, and performance monitoring.
• Experience with tracing and observability tools equivalent to Langfuse.
• Skills integrating APIs and data sources, including SaaS platforms, SQL databases, and data warehouses.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS), including container orchestration, managed databases, IAM, and CI/CD workflow implementation.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants with the ability to verify their outputs, ensuring robust code quality.
• Comprehensive understanding of security concepts including identity management, access permissions, and least-privilege principles.
• Experience with version control and collaborative development platforms such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Strong communications skills in English for clear technical discussions with diverse audiences.

Additional Desired Skills

• Knowledge of web data extraction and scraping technologies.
• Experience working with Django framework and PostgreSQL, including vector search capabilities via pgvector.
• Basics of frontend development to create and sustain chat interfaces using React or Next.js.
• Track record of developing internal tools with widespread adoption among colleagues.
• Understanding of semantic layers, knowledge graphs, or structured knowledge representations.
• Experience implementing agent memory, multi-agent architectures, or sophisticated agent orchestration techniques.
• Background working with remote, globally distributed teams.
