AI Character Narrative Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a visionary and detail-oriented AI Character Narrative Manager to lead the narrative construction and evolution of AI-driven characters. This role focuses on shaping how these characters think, behave, and communicate across various platforms including virtual realms, digital assistants, and immersive experiences.

This position requires hands-on collaboration with a diverse team of AI experts, writers, narrative designers, conversational experts, voice artists, and product specialists. The goal is to fuse narrative creativity with AI conversational technology to ensure each character remains unique, engaging, and consistent throughout all their interactions and contexts.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and oversee the narrative identity, personality profiles, and storytelling frameworks of AI characters.
• Create detailed character backgrounds encompassing motivations, values, conflicts, relationships, and developmental arcs.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive character documentation including personality traits, histories, communication styles, and behavioral principles.
• Set clear narrative guidelines defining communication styles, reactions, relationship dynamics, and situational responses of characters.
• Manage dialogue engines, design conversational scenarios and narrative flows tailored to individual characters.
• Translate narrative concepts into technical prompt design, system directives, and behavioral criteria with AI and technology teams.
• Ensure AI outputs align consistently with established character traits, tone, and narrative contexts.
• Design varied narrative scenarios adapted to different users, emotional settings, and environments.
• Plan long-term strategies for character evolution while preserving core identities.
• Coordinate narrative coherence across multiple platforms such as virtual worlds, avatars, games, and digital humans.
• Review AI-generated dialogues and interactions to maintain narrative quality and emotional authenticity.
• Create guidelines for voice, lexicon, humor, emotional expression, conversational style, and storytelling conduct.
• Collaborate with writers and narrative designers to expand stories, events, and character engagement.
• Align narrative identity with visual and performance elements alongside animators and voice talents.
• Ensure product and user experience teams integrate narrative elements to maximize intuitive interactions.
• Develop systems to track character lore, memories, relationships, events, and evolving narrative data.
• Monitor user feedback to detect inconsistencies or narrative drift and enhance the user experience.
• Implement quality control processes for AI character content prior to release.
• Contribute to the creation of original character universes and interconnected narrative IP ecosystems.
• Research cutting-edge advances in generative and conversational AI to improve storytelling approaches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Creative Writing, Screenwriting, Narrative Design, Dramatic Arts, Film, Game Design, Interactive Media, Communication, Psychology, or related disciplines; equivalent experience may be accepted.
• Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in narrative design, character development, creative writing, conversational design, or interactive storytelling.
• Proven track record in managing character narratives, story frameworks, or expansive fictional universes.
• Deep comprehension of character arcs, story structures, dialogue crafting, emotional continuity, and storytelling techniques.
• Ability to convert complex character concepts into actionable narrative guidelines and conversational frameworks.
• Excellent editorial skills focused on maintaining narrative coherence, tone, voice consistency, and continuity.
• Familiarity with generative AI, conversational AI, AI-driven characters, or virtual human systems is highly preferred.
• Experience in designing AI prompts, system instructions, or behavioral character frameworks is advantageous.
• Understanding of context management, memory, personalization, and adaptive behavior within conversational AI is a plus.
• Exposure to games, XR, digital humans, immersive storytelling, or interactive media is beneficial.
• Strong teamwork skills, capable of collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams of AI engineers, creatives, and product managers.
• Exceptional organizational and project management abilities, able to juggle multiple narratives and character projects.
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
• Portfolio showcasing relevant projects in character development, narrative design, conversational systems, or AI storytelling is required.
