AFL Teacher

Job Overview

This permanent teaching role in Doha, Qatar, within the Academic department, reports directly to the Head of Arabic. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality AFL (Assessment for Learning) education, primarily supporting IB Arabic B and Ab students, ensuring their academic progress and success within IBDP Group 2.

Core Teaching Responsibilities

• Create an inspiring and challenging learning environment that motivates pupils of all abilities and backgrounds.
• Establish a respectful and secure classroom atmosphere and model positive behavior and values.
• Take full responsibility for the academic progress, attainment, and outcomes of students.
• Analyze each pupil’s abilities and prior knowledge to effectively tailor lessons and learning goals.
• Encourage self-reflection among pupils concerning their academic progress and learning needs.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of how pupils learn to enhance teaching effectiveness.
• Support IB Arabic B and Ab students to achieve their potential in the IB Diploma Programme.

Curriculum and Lesson Planning

• Demonstrate solid expertise in subject matter and curriculum, particularly IB Arabic B and Ab syllabi.
• Design well-structured lessons that cultivate intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning.
• Incorporate IB pedagogical approaches in lesson planning and delivery.
• Assign homework and extra-curricular activities to reinforce learning.
• Reflect continuously on teaching strategies to ensure effectiveness and enhance curriculum resources.
• Develop schemes of work and contribute to departmental resources.

Differentiation and Pupil Support

• Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and strengths of pupils, including those with special educational needs, disabilities, high abilities, or English as an additional language.
• Use a variety of teaching strategies to overcome learning barriers and support pupils’ physical, social, and intellectual development phases.
• Possess solid knowledge of IB Arabic and tailor teaching accordingly.

Assessment and Feedback

• Understand and implement appropriate formative and summative assessments, including IB-specific internal and external evaluations.
• Utilize assessment data to monitor student progress, set targets, and plan further instruction.
• Provide regular, constructive feedback through verbal communication and accurate marking.
• Experience with IB oral assessments is essential.

Classroom Management and Behavior

• Establish clear behavioral rules and routines consistent with school policies.
• Promote courteous, disciplined conduct inside and outside classrooms.
• Employ strategies such as praise, sanctions, and rewards fairly to maintain effective class management.
• Build positive relationships while exercising appropriate authority.

Additional Responsibilities

• Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in teaching from a recognized institution.
• Valid teaching certification approved by the Qatar Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
• Minimum three years of relevant teaching experience, preferably with IB Arabic A, B, or Ab at the IBDP level.
• Proficient in English language, both oral and written.
