About the Role
VAS Global Services seeks a skilled Accountant to oversee financial operations at its Visa Application Centre in Kampala, Uganda. This full-time position requires managing branch accounting duties, reconciling cash and revenues, preparing financial reports, supporting payroll, managing refunds, aiding audit readiness, and ensuring statutory and internal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle day-to-day financial transactions and keep precise accounting records.
- Oversee reconciliation of collected cash, visa fees, value-added services (VAS) revenue, POS settlements, and bank deposits.
- Accurately bill clients including fee collection, service charges, and revenue entries.
- Manage refund processing, waivers, and adjustments following authorized procedures.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly financial and revenue reports.
- Maintain logs for revenue, cash reconciliations, and tracking of VAS transactions.
- Assist in payroll operations covering attendance tracking, overtime, allowances, deductions, and incentives.
- Monitor financial metrics such as revenue, transaction volume, payroll expenses, and operational costs.
- Support budget management, cost controls, payment processes to vendors, and expense reviews.
- Detect discrepancies and execute timely reconciliations and corrective measures.
- Ensure financial documentation is audit-ready and offer assistance during internal, statutory, and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with VAT rules, regulatory requirements, accounting policies, and financial controls.
- Collaborate closely with the centralized Finance team and relevant departments.
- Identify and recommend improvements in accounting workflows and financial control mechanisms.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Four to five years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, auditing, or a similar capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise in cash and revenue reconciliation practices.
- Proven background in preparing financial reports and managing accounting operations.
- Experience handling payroll processing and incentive computations.
- Familiarity with VAT laws and compliance requirements.
- Audit support experience including implementing financial controls.
- Proficient in MS Excel and working knowledge of accounting or ERP software systems.
- Capability in budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
- Prior experience in BPO, visa services, travel & tourism, banking, or service-centre environments is advantageous.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or their equivalent are preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
- Fluency in English, adaptable to a diverse cultural workplace.
