Job description

Position Overview

The Account Clerk role involves both standard and specialized clerical, bookkeeping, and administrative duties to support the City’s financial operations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring accurate public fund management, strict adherence to local and state laws, and delivering excellent customer service to residents and vendors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect revenue by processing utility payments, property taxes, and fees for permits and licenses.
  • Manage accounts payable by verifying purchases, reconciling vendor statements, and handling vendor payments.
  • Perform cash receipting and prepare bank deposits by balancing daily cash drawers and reconciling point-of-sale systems.
  • Assist with account reconciliations, identify and resolve discrepancies, and support month-end closing procedures.
  • Provide customer service by responding to public inquiries at the counter, phone, or email about utility bills, property information, tax schedules, and fees.
  • Carry out administrative tasks such as managing the department inbox, ordering office supplies, general filing, scanning, and data entry.

Required Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting-related software.
  • High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and a professional, patient approach when assisting the public.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • At least two years’ experience in bookkeeping, cash handling, or data entry.

Compensation and Working Hours

  • Starting salary ranges between $21.904 and $24.88 per hour depending on qualifications.
  • Standard work hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
