Job description
Position Overview
The 2nd Cook role entails preparing high-quality and efficiently crafted individualized meals, adhering strictly to company policies and public health standards to ensure complete guest satisfaction.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, Sous Chef, and Chef de Partie.
Primary Duties
- Cook and prepare food aligning with company recipes, menu cycles, and quality benchmarks.
- Support Chef de Partie and senior chefs in preparing meals for all meal services including breakfast, lunch, dinner, room service, and special events.
- Implement proper storage, handling, and inventory measures to keep ingredients fresh and reduce waste.
- Organize and set up assigned workstations per company standards and operational schedules.
- Consistently adhere to all public health and food safety regulations.
- Monitor and document refrigerator temperatures to meet readiness for health inspections.
- Provide personalized guest services by understanding guests’ allergies and dietary needs.
- Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and appropriate use of galley equipment, while promptly reporting any equipment issues.
- Assist in training and onboarding new staff while demonstrating teamwork, professionalism, and maintaining company grooming standards.
- Observe company policies, cost control measures, and operational procedures, along with undertaking other assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Holder of a valid STCW95 certification.
- At least 4 years of experience in a comparable role within a five-star international establishment.
- Strong knowledge of international cuisines.
- Familiarity with public health policies and food safety procedures.
- Ability to interpret recipes and culinary fundamentals accurately.
- Proficient knife handling skills.
- Good physical and medical fitness.
- High moral integrity is essential.
Language Proficiency
Fluent English verbal and written communication skills are required, as English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This includes the ability to understand and deliver instructions clearly as well as interact effectively with guests and colleagues.
