The Inspections and Technical Services branch of the Labour and Immigration Department is looking for qualified candidate to fill an Elevator Inspector position. The branch manages the Elevator, Elevating devices, Electrical, and Amusement Ride Inspections across Manitoba to ensure public safety and compliance with provincial statutes, supporting regulations, applicable codes, and standards.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable sector search and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must be able to perform physical duties of the position including working in confined spaces, at heights, standing for long periods of time, driving long distances, and within a variance of ambient temperatures indoors and outdoors
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a Manitoba Class 5F driver’s license or equivalent from other jurisdictions in Canada.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba and abroad for extended periods of time

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Certificate in Elevator Mechanic and Active Elevator (M-A), Limited Specialized Trade Electrician’s Licence, or Elevator Mechanic Licence in the Province of Manitoba, or an equivalent certificate and licence from other jurisdictions in Canada may be considered
  • Experience in operation, installation, service, maintenance, and /or inspection of elevator, elevating devices, and related equipment
  • Experience conducting effective investigations of elevator, elevating devices, and related equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of the acts, regulations, codes, and standards such as, The Elevator Act, The Electricians’ License Act, and The Amusement Act
  • Effective interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong conflict management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise sound judgement and with a high degree of initiative
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs such as, Excel, Word, and Outlook, or compatible software applications

Desired:

  • Certification in Construction or Industrial Electrician in Manitoba or equivalent Certification from other jurisdictions in Canada

Duties:

The Elevator inspector reports to the Program Manager of Elevator, Electrical, and Amusement Ride Inspections. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical safety inspections of elevating devices, passenger ropeways/ conveyers, and amusement rides across Manitoba to ensure the safety of the public.
