Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The teammate is accountable for providing vision and strategic leadership as it relates to Human Resources functions and initiatives. In so doing, oversees all Human Resources activities, involving but not limited to talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, training/staff development, employee relations/staff retention, and payroll. In performing job duties, the teammate is responsible for ensuring compliance with both internal policy and applicable laws and regulations, as well as consistency with the Bank’s Culture of Excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, develops and implements strategic initiatives consistent with Bank values and longer-term objectives; manages projects, as appropriate, to advance strategic vision and longer-term goals
  • Provides high-level oversight and/or input for staffing initiatives that may impact recruiting avenues, applicant flow (both short- and longer-term), interviewing processes, intern program, applicant tracking, background checks and selection tools; ensures consistent application of procedures and full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Guides or delegates responsibility for third party recruiting relationships and terms as appropriate
  • Ensures that the Bank’s Affirmative Action Plan is developed, maintained and monitored, and that Bank management is kept informed of key considerations
  • Provides general oversight for compensation processes to ensure consistent application of Bank’s compensation philosophy, appropriate benchmarking relative to market, and equitable internal administration of plan guidelines; completes and/or analyzes wage surveys, as needed, recommending changes to internal pay scales where appropriate
  • Ensures that systems are in place to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll, that tax and audit obligations are coordinated with all relevant parties, and that needed controls are being maintained
  • Provides general and/or strategic oversight of performance review processes, including online platform processes and metrics, as well as corresponding salary action; coaches managers through process, as needed
  • Negotiates contracts and provides guidance for the management of the Bank’s employee benefits package such that offerings are competitive, costs are appropriate and staff is kept informed; ensures periodic assessments are conducted to determine benefit enhancements or changes that should be pursued; serves as a resource for Open Enrollment and benefit communication initiatives
  • Provides vision and/or high-level guidance for staff training and development initiatives consistent with Bank philosophy and strategic objectives
  • Actively participates in the development and execution of internal communications and related strategies on matters of significant organizational impact
  • Advances positive employee relations through situational coaching, counseling or other interventions; ensures that new employees are effectively integratedinto the Bank; facilitates processes designed to ensure that Bank values are consistently and effectively promoted and upheld
  • Develops and maintains succession plans to ensure planning and preparation for critical staffing needs, both anticipated and unexpected
  • Develops, interprets and communicates employee policies; ensures that the Employee Handbook is both accurate and user-friendly
  • Monitors Human Resources activities and initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; develops and implements new procedures where needed; interacts with governmental and compliance agencies, where appropriate; ensures applicable regulatory filings are prepared and submitted timely
  • Actively participates as a member of the Bank’s Management Committee; supports the Compensation Committee of the Board, as requested
  • Manages vendor relationship and serves as administrator on various systems designed to support or advance talent management, staff development and/or recruiting processes within the Bank
  • May prepare and deliver presentations and/or training in support of Bank policies, procedures and/or strategic initiatives
  • Recruits, hires, assigns jobs, promotes, conducts performance appraisals, counsels, disciplines and terminates employees, mentors and coaches employees in performance management, skill development and personal growth

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline; MBA and/or professional certification preferred
  • Ten years of generalist human resource experience required, with at least five in both strategic and operational human resources management; industry experience helpful
  • Proven experience managing staff to maximize morale, results, accuracy, efficiency and tenure
  • Proven ability to oversee department operational functions
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the proven ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exhibiting a high degree of professionalism
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and/or evaluate information, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in and proven effectiveness with intervention techniques
  • Working knowledge of standard computer applications
