Job Description
At the Water Supply and Treatment Plant, the incumbent’s responsibilities include quality control, assessment of the effects of chemical, physical and biological properties on plant processes, performance evaluation of plant processes and equipment, bench and pilot scale demonstration of processes, the definition of Water Supply and Treatment problems, the design and implementation of related research studies, and the use of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
At the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the incumbent’s responsibilities include process control, sludge disposal management, employee training, assessing the effects of chemical and biological industrial wastes on plant processes, performance evaluation of plant processes, the definition of Wastewater Treatment problems and the design and implementation of research studies toward correction of such problems, and use of the SCADA system.
The current vacancy is in Water Reclamation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science, Engineering Science or related field; AND 3 years experience in water or wastewater treatment related facilities.
Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
Certifications
Must meet one of the following criteria at time of appointment:
- Certification as a Class III Wastewater Works Operator by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) or the ability to obtain a Class III within 24 months from date of appointment. A Wastewater Class III Operator in Training certification is also acceptable. (Highly desirable for the water reclamation vacancy)
- Certification as a Class III Water Supply Operator by OEPA o desirable for the r the ability to obtain a Class III within 24 months from date of appointment. (A Water Class III Operator in Training certification is also acceptable).
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special Requirements
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
