Job Description

Responsibilities

1. Knowledge Management (KM) and Communications Strategy Implementation

  • Deliver on the UN-REDD Programme Knowledge Management (KM) and communications strategy with emphasis on the Africa region.
  • Liaise with UN-REDD Programme partners and other relevant institutions to ensure continued delivery of the KM and communications strategy and work plan.
  • Support the mainstreaming of KM and communications within the UN-REDD Programme, including providing inputs on KM and communications activities for annual and semi-annual programme progress reports.
  • Support the inter-agency Communications and Knowledge Management Working Group.
  • Promote media coverage of priority issues and major achievements, including:
  • Organizing press conferences, interviews, and press seminars.
  • Brokering media interviews and disseminating materials.
  • Consulting with press on story angles and following up on coverage impact.
  • Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion, and press trends to advise management on appropriate actions and responses.
  • Manage and grow contact lists, including:
  • General info subscribers
  • Media contacts
  • Newsletter and weekly roundup subscribers
  • Support national-level communication teams and direct media inquiries to relevant REDD representatives and technical experts.

2. Reporting on Communication Outcomes

  • Draft and implement communication and media plans, including issue-specific and social media strategies.
  • Produce or oversee the production of various communication materials, including:
  • Press kits, press releases, and feature articles
  • Speeches/talking points
  • Booklets, brochures, backgrounders
  • Audio-visual materials and radio spot programs
  • Social media engagement content
  • Annual reports, policy briefs, and info briefs
  • Facilitate at least:
  • Four news articles per newsletter issue on lessons learned, highlights, and key achievements.
  • One opinion piece per month on a key REDD+ topic for the blog, authored by a UN-REDD Programme expert, Partner Country expert, or guest expert.
  • Draft, design, and disseminate the REDD+ Weekly Round-Up.
  • Manage and update the UN-REDD Programme website, including:
  • Day-to-day content management.
  • Global news and event announcements.
  • Coordinate the submission and publication of articles for the Programme newsletter, including:
  • Reviewing content to ensure consistency and avoid duplication.
  • Copyediting text and ensuring high-quality visuals.
  • Researching REDD+ jobs, events, and media coverage.
  • Uploading final articles to the website and formatting the newsletter in Constant Contact.
  • Disseminating the newsletter during the first week of each publication month.
  • Ensure adherence to the UN-REDD Programme editorial style guide, templates, and branding standards.
  • Manage and maintain:
  • The Image Bank.
  • The YouTube video archive.
  • Monitor and report on the uptake and reach of KM and communication materials.

3. Events and Knowledge Management

  • Develop the knowledge management work plan and monitor/report progress.
  • Support the development and implementation of regional and global events at key climate and biodiversity summits, including:
  • Drafting concept notes.
  • Identifying and liaising with speakers.
  • Securing event spaces/venues.
  • Ensuring smooth implementation of events.
  • Support the implementation of regional knowledge exchanges, webinars, and South-South experience-sharing initiatives.
  • Conduct survey initiatives, including:
  • Designing data collection tools.
  • Analyzing responses to enhance the uptake of learning, KM, and communication materials.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and patterns, providing insights through:
  • Graphs, charts, tables, and reports.
  • Data visualization for informed planning and decision-making.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as required.
