About The Opportunity
Join the Legal and Risk team in a vibrant and varied role. We are a collaborative and supportive team and extend this approach to the way we work across the organisation. We’re seeking a proactive and engaging Senior Legal Counsel to work in partnership with all business units to deliver on Healthdirect’s strategic objectives, including through:
- Developing strong business partnering relationships with key stakeholders in all Healthdirect business units.
- Drafting and negotiating funding/services agreements for delivery of Healthdirect services to government entities.
- Drafting and negotiating data sharing agreements to implement a core part of Healthdirect’s 2025-2027 Strategy.
- Supporting the Commercial team by reviewing, drafting and negotiating supply agreements for all business areas.
- Provision of sound and risk-based legal advice and expertise to support commercial decision-making within risk appetites.
- Monitoring and advising on statutory and regulatory developments in areas impacting Healthdirect’s business.
- Mentoring junior members of the Legal team (including secondees).
- Assisting the Head of Legal and Risk with assurance and continual improvement initiatives (including monitoring and assessing AI technology options to drive efficiencies in provision of legal services).
- Lifting capability of all business units through designing and delivering legal training and improved legal support tools.
What we’re looking for
This role requires strong collaboration, stakeholder management and relationship building skills. The essential skills required for this role are:
- At least 8 years post-qualification experience (with at least 3 years’ experience as a senior associate or equivalent senior level in-house corporate counsel experience).
- Demonstrated expertise in providing sound, practical and risk-based legal advice, tailored to the audience and underpinned by commercial acumen.
- Demonstrated experience in statutory interpretation and knowledge of relevant core Australian statutory and regulatory requirements, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
- Demonstrated drafting, interpretation and negotiating skills for a range of legislation and commercial contracts.
- Proactive and disciplined practice management skills with attention to detail and skilled in working to tight deadlines.
