An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified applicant wishing to be considered to lead the Positive Learning Centre in Hervey Bay in a Head of Department – Student Services position, working across Fraser Coast Schools based at Yarrilee State School in Hervey Bay.

About Us

The Positive Learning Centres within the North Coast Region foster safe and healthy learning environments by supporting student wellbeing and engagement by providing specialist support to schools to respond to student needs where required.

This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, until the end of 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About The Role

The purpose of the Positive Learning Centre is to support students of compulsory school age, enrolled in a state school, who at a given point in time require support to engage in their schooling. This role will primarily support students in the Starting Strong phase of schooling (Prep – 2), however will work across other year levels as required.

The successful candidate will work closely with the North Coast Region Multi-Tiered System of Support team to enhance the engagement of students across the region. Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of engagement strategies for diverse learners and inclusive practices, along with flexibility, leadership, and communication skills. Currently 2 vacancies exist with the 2nd position’s final FTE dependant on confirmed funding.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Where requested, prepare all data returns for the Principal.
  • Monitor students’ individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Communicate and work with parents, staff, higher education institutes and State Schools Division to develop strategies to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.
  • Work with and provide tools for the school leadership team, Head of Departments, Year Level Coordinators, Guidance Officers and teachers to utilise in relation to student achievement and attendance.
