About the Position The Organizing Director will be responsible for scaling SUN’s grassroots organizing work in high priority states and federal campaigns. Working closely with SUN’s Policy, Digital Communications, and Community Impact (volunteer engagement) teams, the Director will develop programs and platforms to engage our 1 million person mailing list and direct the implementation of campaigns that build and transform the power of solar supporters across the country. This position reports to the VP of Community Impact with close collaboration with the VP of Policy and Advocacy. Responsibilities Job responsibilities include: Helping to create SUN’s vision of grassroots online and offline organizing. Building and scaling the mobilization of solar owners and supporters in advocacy work at the state and federal levels. Engaging with a diverse range of solar supporters in urban, suburban, and rural communities of all political affiliations. Developing best practices for SUN’s grassroots digital and on-the-ground organizing. Helping to create activist training materials for advocacy events, constituent meetings, public hearings, town halls, etc. Recruiting and training lead volunteers by running virtual phone banks, leading mass volunteer trainings, individually training volunteer leaders, and managing peer-to-peer texting campaigns. Supporting state community impact and advocacy teams on policy priorities. Collaborating with community, advocacy, and solar industry partners. Representing SUN in coalitions and at in-person and digital events. Working with counterparts in Community Impact and other departments at SUN to create a volunteer recruitment email calendar. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience organizing and training large numbers of volunteers on advocacy, labor, or political campaigns Minimum 2 years of people management experience Serious commitment to building power through grassroots organizing models Experience with digital organizing and supporting activists from online to meaningful offline action Demonstrated ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and strategically in a remote work environment Proficient computer skills including online facilitation Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Preferred Qualifications Issue and/or political campaign experience Knowledge and experience in solar and clean energy advocacy Experience with CRM and action tools such as Every Action and Salesforce as well as phone banking and texting tools Benefits, Perks and Support Perks Fun, remote work environment Flexible work hours Meaningful, impactful work Amazing compensation package (check it out below!) We provide full-time staff with a competitive total compensation package, including: Salary range of $80,000 – $90,000 per year Employer-sponsored health insurance (85% coverage for employees and dependents) 15 vacation days and 244 prorated wellness hours per year Paid holiday on all federal holidays – plus the day after Thanksgiving, the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day off, and two additional days of your choice Parental, family, and jury leave 401(k) retirement account with match up to 2% after 1 year $1,000 professional development budget $50/month stipend for phone and internet We anticipate accepting applications until end of March, with the first review of candidates in the middle of March.
