Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Consultant to join our team. In this role, you will support carbon modeling projects, carbon applications, as well as environmental compliance projects with a variety of industrial clients. You will work collaboratively with our team of consultants to collect and summarize data, analyze carbon impacts, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
In this role, you will support PROtect’s Environmental, Carbon, and Sustainability clients by identifying risk and assisting in developing layers of protection to mitigate that risk. This position will primarily support large industrial facilities such as refineries, renewable fuel producers, chemical plants, and/or oil & gas facilities.
This is a remote position, with required travel. Site visits required – up to 25% travel required or as needed.
Essential Functions And Basic Duties
- Use creativity to assist customers in carbon reduction strategies and ability to model the different strategies in carbon models such as GREET, OpenLCA, GHGenius, and other available models.
- Develop fuel pathway applications to allow customers to participate in low carbon fuel markets such as California, Oregon, Washington, Canada, ISCC, and Voluntary Markets.
- Develop engineering reviews and petitions to support renewable fuels producers’ fuel pathway registrations under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
- Provide support to Environmental team on complex carbon modeling projects.
- Clearly communicate with team members, customers, and regulatory agencies on complex carbon projects.
- Develop Carbon Intensity Analysis Reports discussing the details of the carbon models and results as specified by our customer.
- Monitor and manage low-carbon fuel program regulatory requirements.
- Complete Lifecycle Analysis Reports to support carbon applications.
- Support consulting services in both our carbon and environmental service lines.
- Manage multiple activities with varying timelines and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop a broad range of technical skills and capabilities to support the Environmental, Carbon, and Sustainability team.
- Build and support relationships with regulatory entities, vendors and clients. Identifies and analyzes customer needs, develops concepts and proposals, schedules activities and closes contracts.

Requirements
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, science, or related field.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- At least 5 years of professional experience conducting carbon intensity modeling using GREET-derived models, OpenLCA, or other renewable fuel models.
- At least 5 years of professional experience developing fuel pathway applications for customers to participate in low carbon fuel markets.
- Advanced proficiency in excel with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Consulting experience preferred.
- Experience managing multiple projects while managing budgets and deadlines.
- Ability to apply creative, practical, common sense thinking to develop carbon modeling strategies.
- Awareness of low carbon fuel program regulations, but domestically and in Canada.
- Strong attention to detail.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work collaboratively with a team, to sit for long periods of time and perform sedentary computer work, to work from home/remote and stay focused and productive. Strong writing, strategic and interpersonal verbal communications skills. Ability to efficiently research regulations and policies. Self-starter with strong cognitive problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, self-motivated to accomplish goals with remote oversight, goal-oriented with excellent organization, planning and implementation, time-management, and quality control skills. Strong customer service abilities with the ability to understand the big picture while remaining detail oriented.
Site visits required – up to 25% travel required or as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive during adverse conditions across multiple states. May include work over weekends or travel on weekends. May require lifting of up to 25 pounds on occasion.
