Roles And Responsibilities

The duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Support: Provide emotional and practical support to students, addressing their concerns and helping them adjust to residence life.
  • Supervision: Ensure the safety and security of students by monitoring the residence and enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Community Building: Organize and facilitate social activities and events to promote a positive and inclusive community atmosphere.
  • Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts between students and provide guidance on resolving issues amicably.
  • Health and Safety: Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary. Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain records of student interactions, incidents, and other relevant information. Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Communication: Act as a liaison between students and residence management, communicating student needs and concerns effectively.

Student Welfare

  • Being responsible for the welfare, safety and well-being of students within the student accommodation facility and aim to provide a caring, safe and happy environment that is as home like as possible.
  • Provide psychosocial and emotional support to students who are struggling with mental illnesses using CBT.
  • Refer students for further counselling if and when required.
  • Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
  • Monitor stress levels, sleeping habits, homesickness, and other concerns, spending informal time with students.
  • The House Mother should have a maternal influence on the students, ensuring that bed spaces are kept neat and tidy and uniform and general physical appearance is of the desired standard.
  • Reduce room conflict by encouraging the co-existence of all races and cultures through understanding and living together.
  • The House Mother will undertake basic duties to assist the Building Managers in daily routines involving the care of students and general functions of the student accommodation facility.
  • Follow-up services for students to ensure that their needs are met.
  • The House Mother should take a positive interest in the activities of each student.
  • It is important that the House Mother is approachable, trustworthy and reliable whilst always adhering to mandatory reporting requirements with students.
  • Excellent communication skills is key to the successful role of House Mother.
  • Utilizes community resources in addressing the needs of students.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and reports.
  • Liaise with parents if and when required.

Facilities Assistance

  • Daily building walks and checks.
  • Weekly formal recorded building inspections.
  • Conduct monthly room inspections to ensure that all students are living in a hygienic environment.

Leasing Assistance

  • Facilitating room changes.
  • Walk-in leasing enquiries, viewing and concluding leases.
  • Performing move-in and exit inspections.
  • Submitting necessary paperwork to leasing administrators.

Collections Assistance

  • Assisting with arrears collections, like facilitating swipes.

Student Liaison

  • Ensure adherence to house rules, report and facilitate any breaches.
  • Student liaison for all queries.
  • Managing after hour emergencies at buildings from time to time when required.
  • All liaison and co-ordination with House Committees.

Compliance

  • Updating daily worksheets and control sheets.
  • Compiling weekly and monthly reports.
  • Attending weekly or monthly team meetings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role or in a caregiving, counselling, or social work setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion.
  • Compassionate, patient, and approachable.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be willing and able to attend to any student wellness related emergency after hours.
  • Attention to detail.

  • Proficient in English.
