The Opportunity
The City of St. John’s Recreation Division is currently seeking motivated, enthusiastic, and energetic individuals to work as Lifeguards in our Summer Outdoor Aquatics Programs.
Accountabilities
Lifeguards must ensure the safety of all patrons and be comfortable monitoring the conduct and activities of patrons using the outdoor swimming facilities.

Qualifications
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (NL) Pool Option
- Lifesaving Society NLS Waterfront Option would be an asset
- Experience in supervision of aquatic programs and activities would be an asset
- Strong communication, leadership, and instructional skills
Other Requirements
- Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening Certificate AND Vulnerable Sector Check (or equivalent) – Dated not more than six months prior to hire
- As per the Public Pool Regulations under the Public Health Act, active lifeguards must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
Additional Qualifications (Provided Free For Successful Candidates If Required)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support CPR (Level C)
- Standard First Aid
- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification
- Paddle Canada Certifications
Physical Requirements
Many of these positions require physical agility and stamina to carry out required duties.
Hours of Work
- Program Start and End dates: June 27 – August 24, 2025
- Must be available to attend mandatory training. First possible training date beginning June 10 and continuing throughout the month of June. Some training may be offered virtually, evenings and/or weekends.
- Training/program dates may vary based on assigned location.

Rate of pay effective April 1, 2025.
