The Avery Coonley School is seeking an experienced, dynamic, student-centered K-4 math specialist. The math specialist is a member of the kindergarten through 8th grade math team and is tasked with providing one-on-one and small group support to students in grades K-4. The candidate will be skilled in developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills and will employ a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that all students are challenged to attain mastery of complex concepts. The candidate is committed to creating an environment where each student is encouraged to reach their full potential. The candidate must be able to integrate technology in a one-to-one classroom environment. Experience with honors-level Algebra I, Geometry, and STEAM curriculum is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and present effective daily instruction in small group or one-on-one setting
- Develop lessons that are engaging and grade level appropriate
- Challenge, guide, and counsel students in appropriate ways
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan for remediation or extension level support
- Keep clear and complete records for student progress reports
- Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, words, and actions
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred; bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of teaching mathematics required; mathematics endorsement preferred
- Experience with common core standards, preferably K-8
- Experience with bright and gifted students
- Approachable and collaborative, possesses effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent listening skills – able to listen to students and colleagues, understand and quickly respond effectively to their requests
- “Can do” attitude and ability to work as part of a team
- Willingness to develop differentiated learning experiences
- Ability to receive feedback and engage in continuous self-improvement
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, rapidly changing work environment
