The IP & Entertainment Paralegal consults with external counsel to manage legal matters pursuant to Sight & Sound’s intellectual property and business initiatives.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain protection of creative IP for all Sight & Sound Ministries Branches: conduct trademark and copyright clearance searches, prepare documentation, coordinate filings with the USPTO, and support the ongoing use and maintenance of registered trademarks and copyrights.
- Prepare and manage the process for securing necessary licensing for all productions, including mechanical, sync, grand rights, and PROs for stage shows, theatrical releases, and streaming.
- Partner with the Production & Story Project Manager on work for hire agreements for all creative development. Ensure all Brand and Business products and content adhere to licenses and agreement requirements.
- Serve as the legal coordinator on the FILMS Distribution Team: act as point person for external legal counsel, ensure proper agreements are executed and filed according to distribution specifications, negotiate and/or adjust agreement details with external parties, assist in clearances as needed, etc.
- Interpret, make recommendations, and serve as a resource on the handling of legal matters for all Brand & Business Development projects and inquiries in partnership with external legal counsel. Draft and extend agreements, NDAs, correspondence, and other related documents as needed.
- Appropriately address any misuse of Sight & Sound’s intellectual property, agreements, and brand representation by third parties.
- Serve as a notary and company resource for general legal matters as needed.
Prerequisites
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Strong understanding of legal language and principles in the entertainment industry
- Ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues in a proactive manner
- Ability to handle private, sensitive, and confidential information appropriately, and to exercise discretion and good judgement
- Extreme attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
- Flexibility and adaptability
