Director of Finance

The Cancer Research Institute (CRI), established in 1953 and headquartered in New York City, is the preeminent U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to saving more lives by fueling the discovery and development of powerful immunotherapies for all cancers.

Guided by a world-renowned Scientific Advisory Council that includes four Nobel laureates and 35 members of the National Academy of Sciences, CRI has invested over $517 million in support of research conducted by immunologists and tumor immunologists at the world”s leading medical centers and universities and has contributed to many of the key scientific advances that demonstrate the potential for immunotherapy to change the face of cancer treatment. The Cancer Research Institute”s research funding supports the entire continuum of basic discovery through early-stage clinical development of novel cancer immunotherapies.

The Director of Finance is responsible for managing financial operations for the organization including overseeing the collection of data and information required to produce financial statements, supervising budget planning, coordinating internal and external audit processes and 990 prep, and making adjustments based on the audit results.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
• Overseeing budgeting and forecasting processes
• Managing cashflow
• Overseeing proper accounting of $100M actively managed alternative investments
• Consistently analyze financial data and prepare financial statements
• Coordinate with Development team on proper recognition reconciliation of contribution revenue
• Overseeing payroll processes
• Coordinating audit and 990 activities
• Preparing reports for Leadership and the Board of Trustees

Requirements

• Bachelor”s degree is required; a CPA or MBA is preferred
• 7+ years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization.
• Experience coordinating audit activities, managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll
• Experience in grants management as it relates to compliance and recognition and reporting of corporate, foundation grants, and planned giving is preferred
• Knowledge of accounting and reporting softwar
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data

We offer competitive compensation and benefits tailored to factors such as location, role complexity, and experience. For roles in Burlingame, CA or New York City, the estimated base salary range is $145K- 165K per year.
