The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and innovative Graphic Designer to join our highly skilled, award winning, dynamic team. You’ll have the confidence and skills to deliver high quality, creative graphic design services and solutions that have the right impact and convey information clearly and accurately. You will conceptualise and design high-impact publications and assets, such as brochures, animations, digital ads, infographics, posters, leaflets, exhibition stands and banners, in relation to major communications projects and campaigns that inform Londoners of our important police work. All these assets will adhere to the Met’s brand guidelines, which you will be tasked with guarding, maintaining and developing.

You will be adaptable and flexible, willing to deal with any challenges that come your way. You will have an inquiring mind and be able to interpret and build on initial briefs. You will use your expertise and ideas to deliver impactful communication and content.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visual Concept Design and Development – Working closely with campaigns and marketing to lead on the production of design outputs aligned with a strategy. You will be responsible for the whole production process of publications; including receiving and interpreting creative briefs, developing creative concepts for marketing campaigns and other internal and external communication projects, sourcing/commissioning imagery, implementing designs from concept, typesetting, editing content, and managing the delivery processes.
  • The Met’s Brand – Manage and maintain the brand toolkit and associated assets and templates including creation of new assets where required. Advise and implement Brand guidelines across assets. Ensuring the brand’s correct and consistent use.
  • Stakeholder Management – End to end process for production of publications, including receiving and interpreting creative briefs, developing creative concepts for marketing campaigns and other internal and external communication projects, sourcing/commissioning imagery, implementing designs from concept, editing content, and managing the delivery processes.
  • Design Expertise – Provide expertise and creative input from inception stage of design work through to its final production, where necessary co-ordinating with other sections to ensure initial concepts and ideas are explored and developed to the full, and are appropriate to the target audience.
  • To visually simplify complex and highly detailed technical information for use in print or digital media.
  • To manage multiple projects from brief through to final presentation and liaise with the Campaigns Lead to ensure deadlines are met and projects managed effectively enabling an efficient workflow.
  • To carry out and assimilate the results of research and feedback into the needs and opinions of potential document users.
  • To evaluate the need for specialist software/hardware.
  • To keep abreast of design trends and technology developments and develop own skills to ensure the Met’s content remains relevant and engaging.
  • To ensure all design content is accessible, legally compliant and supports the Disability Discrimination Act.
