Position Summary
The Molecular Biologist will work at the bench and is expected to contribute intellectually to execution of the company’s goals. The candidate should have excellent demonstrated skills in the latest cloning and transgene detection approaches. Expertise in the challenges of cloning recalcitrant or toxic genes is highly desirable. Working knowledge of plant molecular biology of crop plants such as corn and/or soybean is desired. The Molecular Biologist will work closely with other cell and molecular biologists in a highly collaborative and cross-functional atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement transformation vector cloning strategies that may include troubleshooting cloning of toxic genes
- Identification and analysis of transgenic events using standard techniques, including DNA, RNA and protein detection and quantification
- Maintain detailed and organized records of project data and other materials as needed
- Maintain regular and clear communication of research progress and results to team members and leadership
Education and Experience:
- MS +5 years or Ph.D. with 3+ years post-graduate experience in molecular biology
- Proven track record of success in the complex cloning approaches, including with toxic genes and/or alternative transformation systems
- Ability to perform under tight timelines and with the agility to change course as needed in a fast-paced startup company atmosphere
- Excellent planner, organizer, critical thinker, and problem solver, with a demonstrated ability to efficiently execute project tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of plant tissue culture and transformation technologies a significant plus
