Your team:

This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning big-five publisher in a fast-paced, dynamic and supportive finance team. The Finance team work with each department in the business on budgeting and forecasting revenues and costs and then tracking how we perform against these targets by producing management information and analysis and helping teams with cost control. We support all commercial decisions such as acquiring the rights of the books we publish and negotiating our contractual terms with our customers and suppliers.

Your role:

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, the Commercial Financial Analyst position is key to the Pan Macmillan finance team as you will be the “face” of the team for several areas of the business. You will have exposure to the whole business at all levels, from assistant to the leadership team, and have the opportunity to work with brilliant, creative people who are passionate not just about their work but also about making a difference.

This is a varied role with a key focus on commercial decision support. Central to the position is regular reporting on author and title profitability alongside financial planning, analysis and business partnering for promotional costs. The work you will undertake has a direct impact on key business decisions both in the short and the long term.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Author and title profitability reporting and analysis. Producing author and title profitability reports to support new acquisitions, business reviews and commercial decision making, as well as coordinating the quarterly and annual editorial profitability and anniversary review process with publishers up to Leadership Team level. Your input in these areas will be a critical part of the publishing cycle and will help inform the commercial strategy.
  • Promotion and marketing cost accounting and analysis. Business partnering with the Communications and Sales teams to ensure accurate cost capture alongside forecasting and performance analysis. Management of accounting entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Commercial finance and publishing division support. Reporting and analysis of audio publishing, author analysis for divisional support, ad hoc reporting to support the Head of Commercial Finance.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA or international equivalent), preferably with at least two years of relevant industry experience
  • Analytical and financial modelling experience with excellent Excel skills
  • Proven ability to improve processes
  • Commercially minded and adaptable to change
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with colleagues across both finance and non-financial teams.

Desirable skills we’d love you to have:

  • Knowledge of SAP and Biblio.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
