Position Summary

The Preadmit & Eligibility Benefits Specialist works closely with physicians’ offices, insurance companies, internal departments, and patients to ensure that all demographic information is gathered, insurance benefits are verified, all third party and contractual reporting requirements are met, all necessary authorization and/or referrals are in place, and all financial data is complete. Other responsibilities may include performing medical billing functions to third party payers and patients; reviewing paper and electronic claims to verify accuracy and completeness of charges; verifying ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, post payments and making adjustments; and researching and resolving minor patient complaints.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma
  • Associate degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or other related field, preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a health care environment and familiarity with patient registration processes and insurance billing requirements required.
  • Computer experience, good verbal communications skills, and an understanding of the current trends in insurance billing and other third-party reimbursement issues also required.
