Bullis School seeks an Upper School Biology Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2025-26 academic year. Candidates should have experience teaching science to a range of learners and value interdisciplinary thinking to guide students as they develop a deeper understanding of our interconnected world through the study of science. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, contributing to department initiatives, and advising. Additional opportunities to supervise after-school activities are based on need and interest. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Upper School Science Department Chair.

The Bullis Upper School Science Department values collaboration and nurtures a culture of continuous growth and collegial support. Teachers keep up to date with current advances in science, teaching resources, pedagogy, and national objectives and have opportunities to collaboratively research and craft differentiated, engaging lessons for students. Science courses are taught in technology-rich laboratory classrooms in the school’s newest building devoted to STEM and Entrepreneurship. Students engage in inquiry-based experimentation, keep records of laboratory work, and are authentically assessed on content as well as laboratory skills. Each year Bullis science teachers incorporate research, experimental design, and STEM projects in which students practice Bullis’ core values while gaining a deeper understanding of the natural world around us. Qualities Of a Bullis Science Teacher

  • An appreciation and respect for high school-aged students as learners and people, through challenging and joyful moments alike
  • Commitment and knowledge to work with, teach, and lead groups of diverse individuals in respectful, equitable, and inclusive ways
  • Good cheer, humor, and warmth, balanced by professionalism and sound judgment
  • An ability to create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
  • Detail-oriented, with the capacity to effectively and efficiently manage numerous small and large tasks
  • Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
  • Development and delivery of highly engaging, innovative lessons in course-aligned teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, or related field (required)
  • Master’s Degree in Biology, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in secondary education (preferred)
  • Teaching certificates are not required

Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated annual salary range of $70,000 to $100,000
