Job Description
South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is seeking a skilled and motivated Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the accounting and reconciliation processes, primarily overseeing accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) functions for the Chamber and its affiliates. Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable:
- Create and edit outgoing invoices in the database for payment application.
- Generate weekly reports detailing invoices created; reconcile AR monthly between membership database and accounting software.
- Proof, edit, and post payments received, including credit card payments, to invoices in the database.
- Monitor and reconcile outstanding AR balances, ensuring adjustments are made between the member database and accounting software.
- Prepare daily deposits and, when necessary, take deposits to the bank.
- Manage collections process, tracking investor communications in accordance with policy to ensure timely collections.
- Process refunds as required.
Accounts Payable:
- Enter incoming invoices into QuickBooks for approval and payment processing.
- Maintain a well-organized AP filing system in the approved order.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all vendor inquiries and communications.
- Manage W-9 forms and assist the VP of Finance with 1099 printing at year-end.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Propose, prepare, and enter standard monthly journal entries.
- Prepare and post adjusting or correcting journal entries as needed.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts at month-end to support financial statement preparation.
- Collaborate as part of the audit team during annual audits.
- Perform month-end bank reconciliations for Chamber and affiliate accounts.
- Provide database administration support for Chamber’s goals.
- Ensure data integrity by performing updates in multiple modules of the Freedom database.
- Offer end-user support for Freedom, including creating affiliations, managing duplicate records, and assisting staff with reporting and data inquiries.
- Provide event management support by assisting with registration, sponsor creation, and committee updates.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Collaborate with other departments to manage data within the Freedom database.
- Manage quarterly and annual PAC filings with the SC Ethics Commission.
- Report actual vs. budget expenses regularly to staff for expense control management.
- Partner with the Events Manager on event expenses and budgets.
- Support the Office Manager with vendor contracts and serve as a backup when needed.
Position Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Accounting, or an Associate Degree with relevant work experience.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage confidential financial information with integrity and discretion.

- Strong ethical standards and professionalism in all interactions.
Beneficial Skills & Experience:
- Experience with QuickBooks Online accounting software.
- Familiarity with Accrisoft’s Freedom database (non-integrated with QuickBooks) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
