Title: Director, Marketing & Communications

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Vice President, Advocacy

Location: Tampa, FL

Role Overview

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading the Communications Department and ensuring the integrity, consistency, and strategic alignment of the Chamber’s brand across all media platforms. As the Chamber’s lead marketing and communications professional, this role collaborates with all departments to define and execute marketing, internal and external communications, and brand strategies that support the Chamber’s mission and objectives.

This role requires a strategic thinker with leadership, branding, and communications expertise. The ideal candidate will be a creative, proactive and dynamic professional who can elevate the Chamber’s presence and engagement within the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that is aligned with the Chamber’s Vision 2026 plan and advances the Chamber’s mission while supporting programmatic, fundraising, and brand awareness goals.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the Chamber’s brand within the regional business community and among internal audiences (members).
  • Oversee and manage all branding elements across digital, print, and social media platforms to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Lead and manage the Communications Department, including the Creative Services and Marketing team members.
  • Assign projects and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Oversee the development of marketing collateral, newsletters, website content, and social media campaigns.
  • Proactively develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts at the local, state, and national levels, serving as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, managing messaging and response strategies.
  • Prepare and train Chamber staff, leadership, board members, and volunteers for media engagements, including interviews and press events.
  • Draft and edit executive scripts, speeches, surveys, and news releases.
  • Lead the development of event scripts and oversee video production for major Chamber events, including Annual Meeting, Small Business of the Year, Military Appreciation, and Women of Influence Luncheon. Direct event program execution from the AV booth, ensuring seamless content delivery.

 

Specifications

·      Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field

·      Minimum 5 years of experience in strategic marketing, branding, and communications, preferably in a Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit, or business association setting.

·      Proficiency in design tools (Adobe Creative Suite), website management, project management & collaboration software, and CRM platforms.

·      Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and working cross-functionally.

·      Ability to analyze data and translate insights into impactful marketing strategies.

·      Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.

·      Demonstrated strong project management skills with a team.

Preferred Skills

·      Experience working with business and government stakeholders.

·      Knowledge of business advocacy and non-profit membership organization/associations.

·      Familiarity with video production and multimedia storytelling.

Relationships/Accountabilities

·      Accountable for all Chamber communications

·      Accountable to the Vice President, Advocacy for fulfilling responsibilities

·      Holds direct reports accountable for performance and duties

·      Works cooperatively and positively with all Chamber staff members and volunteers to promote an environment of excellence, teamwork, dignity, and respect.

·      Exhibits a total commitment to maintaining high quality service standards of the Tampa Bay Chamber; demonstrates excellent service skills in dealing proactively with members, visitors, colleagues, and all Chamber contacts.
