Job Description
As a Natural Environment Project Officer, your native vegetation and biodiversity expertise will be key to assessing values, managing risks to biodiversity and minimising impacts to the environment. You will work closely with other DEECA divisions and Groups, Local Government and stakeholders to ensure planned projects align with relevant biodiversity and native vegetation legislative requirements.
The role will support environment portfolio case-management for planning referrals, as well as contributing to the Natural Environment Program’s assessment of state significant projects, energy projects and other referral types.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification related to natural resource management or other relevant field.
- Demonstrated ability to apply environmental and biodiversity assessment processes, focused on biodiversity risk management, native vegetation policy, and related legislation.
- Understanding of public land management as it relates to forests and fires and mitigation of risks to threatened species.
This is fixed term position available for a period of 12 months. The work location for this position is flexible within the Hume Region with hybrid work arrangements available.
