The Lake Erie Crushers are searching for a 2025 Baseball Hitting Metrics Intern. This is an UNPAID Internship and candidates are REQUIRED to receive college credit to qualify for this position. Candidates MUST be able to provide their own housing, transportation to and from the stadium, AS WELL AS their own computer.

The Baseball Hitting Metrics Intern will assist the Baseball Analytics Coordinator in the collection and cleansing of Trackman data, focusing on hitting metrics. These hitting metrics include, but are not limited to, hit type, exit velocity, launch angle, distance, hit spin rate, direction, and hang time. The Baseball Hitting Metrics Intern will be involved in a brand new Baseball Analytics Department, facilitating the collection, uploading, and storage of Trackman data on all Frontier League teams. They will work with the Crushers’ Baseball Analytics Coordinator and In-game Tagging and Pitching Metrics Intern in helping the players reach their full potential and ensuring that the Baseball Analytics Department has accurate and timely data. This individual will ensure that the coaches have professional hitter development reports. You will also make sure that the coaches can be best prepared for every single series. They will meet daily (when the Crushers are home) with the Baseball Analytics Coordinator and In-game Tagging and Pitching Metrics Intern to discuss their tasks, responsibilities, and Baseball Analytics projects.

A competitive candidate will be an excellent communicator, be able to complete analytical tasks concerning baseball hitting metrics effectively and on time, be extremely organized and detail oriented, and be proficient in using technologies such as Google Slides, iMovie, and Google Docs to create professional sports videos, reports, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout May – August/September 2025
  • Ability to work in-person in Avon, OH for all Crushers’ home games throughout the time period listed above
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate baseball hitting metrics (exit velocity, launch angle, hit type, distance) to coaches, players, scouts, and other baseball executives
  • Ability to communicate baseball hitting advanced metrics, including, but not limited to, Chase %, Hard hit %, Damage %, zone swinging %, and swinging strike %, to coaches, scouts, and other baseball executives
  • High level of familiarity with the current state of baseball hitting research
  • High level of familiarity with Baseball Reference, FanGraphs, and Baseball Savant, having used Trackman is a plus
  • Experience using Google Sheets in a sports-related context
  • Experience creating presentations/reports in a sports-related context through Word, Google Docs, Powerpoint, or Google Slides
  • Experience editing and working with large .csv files
  • Experience using iMovie in a sports-related context
  • Prior in-game tagging experience with Trackman, Yakkertek etc. is highly encouraged
  • Experience with BaseballCloud, past internships in the Frontier League, and having played baseball/softball is a plus
  • Studying Undergraduate or graduate degree in a field that emphasizes technical and analytical problem-solving skills or is related to sports, such as mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering, or sports management

Responsibilities

  • The Baseball Hitting Metrics Intern will report to the Baseball Analytics Coordinator and will assist in all Baseball Operations tasks focused on in-game hitting metrics, opponents’ hitters’ scouting, hitting development, and hit type/result data collection and analysis
  • For every game, complete the Crushers’ hitters’ “points” sheet, in live-time for home games in Google Sheets
  • Go through every Frontier League game .csv file and correct tagged hit type classifications
  • Manage all Frontier League individual game .csv files and full season .csv files
  • Upload Crushers’ individual game .csv files and every teams’ full season .csv file to BaseballCloud
  • Collect at-bat data for Crushers’ hitters after every game
  • Complete the hitters’ side of scouting reports for coaches for every series through BaseballCloud/AnalyzR in Google Docs
  • Complete the hitters’ side of scouting reports for players for every series through BaseballCloud/AnalyzR in Google Docs
  • Work on the hitters’ side of monthly player development reports in Google Slides for the coaches to monitor player development and be prepared to have discussions with scouts who are interested in our players
  • Create videos of Crushers’ players at-bats for a series for every series in iMovie
  • Perform ad-hoc research projects and assignments as requested
