Duties And Responsibilities
The Mechanical (Manufacturing) Engineer will play a pivotal role in implementing, maintaining, and optimizing plant production systems and processes. This position requires expertise in manufacturing techniques, material properties, and mechanical design to enhance production efficiency, ensure quality standards, and support innovation. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address challenges and implement solutions that contribute to a manufacturing plant with world-class ambitions. A team-oriented candidate will be expected to be deeply involved in plant production processes, and demonstrate skills in organization, lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, and technical process implementation. A background in process, machine, and test system automation will be strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development:
- Develop and implement equipment, automated systems, and processes that support production output.
- Create and revise technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications for production equipment and processes.
- Innovate and implement modifications to enhance machine performance and adapt to new product requirements.
- Process Optimization:
- Analyze manufacturing processes to identify and implement improvements in efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production equipment and processes.
- Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues, reducing downtime.
- Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new designs and process changes.
- Review existing product designs and execute projects to improve manufacturabilty, reduce cost, and reduce throughput time.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Partner with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to integrate customer requirements into design and production processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to support transition of new product development into production and manufacturing.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations teams.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure designs and processes comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, processes, and project progress.
- Generate detailed work instructions for existing and new production processes.
- Play an integral role in developing production routings, manufacturing methods and time standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, with experience in manufacturing and production processes preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, material properties, and manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and implement effective solutions.
- Familiarity with safety and quality standards in manufacturing environments.
- High level computer and technical skills, especially as related to industrial equipment, production machines, and digital tools and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of web handling equipment, such as guiding and tension control systems.
- Experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse teams.
- Experience with developing automated testing and production systems.
Physical requirements
- This role requires a combination of office and manufacturing floor work, including exposure to industrial equipment and noise.
- Ability to life 35 lbs. on occasion.
- Ability to stand for extended periods – 2 hour periods.
