Job Title: Senior Business AnalystLocation: San Francisco, CA (Remote/PST Time available zone required)Compensation: Starting at $350,000 per yearEmployment Type: Full-TimeAbout the CompanyOur client, a leading global technology investment firm headquartered in New York, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Business Analyst to join their Global Foundries Investment Division. This division focuses on investments within the semiconductor, hardware, and advanced materials sectors, playing a critical role in shaping the future of technology. This role requires approximately three trips annually to East Asia.About the RoleThe Senior Business Analyst will be a key member of the investment team, providing critical market research, financial analysis, and due diligence support for potential investments. This role requires a deep understanding of the semiconductor industry, including foundry operations, supply chain dynamics, and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will be a highly analytical and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and presentation skills.Scope of WorkMarket Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research on the semiconductor industry, including competitive landscape analysis, technology trend forecasting, and demand/supply dynamics. This will involve analyzing market reports, industry publications, and engaging with industry experts.Financial Modeling & Valuation: Develop complex financial models to evaluate potential investment opportunities. This includes building discounted cash flow (DCF) models, comparable company analysis, and precedent transaction analysis. You will be responsible for sensitivity analysis and scenario planning to assess investment risks and potential returns.Due Diligence: Lead the due diligence process for potential investments, including analyzing financial statements, conducting customer and competitor interviews, and assessing technological risks. This involves collaborating with technical experts to evaluate the feasibility and scalability of new technologies.Investment Recommendations: Prepare investment memoranda summarizing key findings from market research, financial analysis, and due diligence. Present investment recommendations to the investment committee.Portfolio Management: Support the ongoing monitoring and management of existing portfolio companies. This may involve tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing financial performance, and providing strategic guidance.Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including investment professionals, legal counsel, and operations, as well as external partners, such as TSMC and GlobalFoundries Inc., to execute investment transactions.Teams You Will Work With:Investment Team: You will be a core member of the investment team, working closely with investment professionals to identify, evaluate, and execute investment opportunities.Technical Team: You will collaborate with technical experts to assess the technical feasibility and competitive advantage of potential investments.Legal & Operations Teams: You will work with legal counsel to negotiate transaction agreements and with the operations team to manage post-investment activities.Portfolio Company Management Teams: You will interact with the management teams of portfolio companies to monitor performance and provide support.External Partners: You will interact with key industry players, including foundry partners like TSMC and GlobalFoundries Inc., as well as other semiconductor ecosystem participants.Technical Details & Industry Expertise:A strong understanding of the following is crucial:Semiconductor Manufacturing Processes: Deep familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes, including front-end (wafer fabrication) and back-end (assembly, test, and packaging). Knowledge of various process nodes (e.g., 5nm, 3nm) and their implications for performance and cost.Foundry Business Model: Understanding of the foundry business model and the dynamics of the global semiconductor foundry market. Familiarity with the competitive landscape, including major players like TSMC, GlobalFoundries Inc., Samsung Foundry, and Intel Foundry Services.Semiconductor Supply Chain: Knowledge of the semiconductor supply chain, from raw materials to finished products. Understanding of the roles of different players, including IDMs, fabless companies, foundries, and OSAT providers.Emerging Semiconductor Technologies: Awareness of emerging trends in the semiconductor industry, such as advanced packaging, chiplet architectures, and new materials.Financial Modeling for Semiconductor Companies: Expertise in financial modeling techniques specific to semiconductor companies, considering factors like wafer cost, capacity utilization, and technology licensing.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
