Job Description
We are a large department where staff gain experience on Elekta linear accelerators and within the pre-treatment area which has 2 dedicated CT scanners, Raystation, Ultrasound and MRI.
In addition, we provide highly specialised treatments such as SABR, Clarity IG, Surface Guided, Paediatric radiotherapy. We also have expanding HDR brachytherapy, Gamma Knife, and Molecular radiotherapy services.
All staff are involved in the development of the service and we actively encourage continual professional development including opportunities for post graduate learning to develop skills to promote patient centered care.
In this Band 6 post, you will need to ensure accurate delivery of radiotherapy treatments with appropriate patient care. You will also be required to assist the Band 7 radiographer in charge of the area and to deputise when necessary.
- Recognise any faults and malfunctions with equipment within the department and report them to the appropriate people.
- Analyse systematically and evaluate all data and information relevant to patients’ treatments ensuring the patient and their relatives are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
- Anticipate and identify common and complex treatment related side effects, offering advice and where necessary refer to the relevant health care professional
- To be able to justify the patients’ treatment based on theoretical knowledge
- Be able to accurately set-up patients on a linear accelerator for radiotherapy treatment
- To provide, receive and use sensitive information maintaining patient confidentiality at all times, ensuring that accurate treatment records are kept at all times
- Provide information to patients and their carers about their treatment and expected side effects.
- To communicate accurate and timely information with all other disciplines involved in providing high quality radiotherapy treatment including communicating with the patients GP’s by producing end of treatment summaries to send to them.
- Apply safe and effective moving and handling skills in order to protect all individuals
