Travel Nurse RN – ER/Trauma – $2,150 per week in Carrington, ND

Shift: 12-hour Day/Night Rotate Every Other Weekend; first to float

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Job Description

  • Department covers Med Surg, ER, and Outpatient RN duties
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
  • Average of 3-5 patients treated daily in the ER
  • Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain, UTI, stroke, trauma, CHF, COPD, CKD, and diabetes
  • Trauma Level 5, STEMI receiving through ER and then transfer, acute stroke-ready hospital
  • No fast track or separate triage area
  • No separate holding or Psych/seclusion rooms in ER
  • Security is not housed in ER 24/7
  • Previous travel experience is preferred
  • Nurses are required to titrate drips; common drips include diuretics and insulin
  • A charge nurse is present each shift but does not take assignments
  • Generally, one physician or mid-level staffed in the ER at a time
  • No nurse aides/patient care techs on the unit; primary care model
  • Lab handles ABGs; nursing handles breathing treatments and EKGs; radiology may also handle EKGs
  • RNs are required to manage RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, etc., with provider assistance
  • RNs read their own tele/monitor strips, using Mindray monitors
  • X-Ray and CT services available next to the ER; transport handled by radiology and nursing
  • Phlebotomy draws labs; nursing may assist with difficult sticks
  • Rotating 12-hour shifts starting at 7, with self-scheduling allowed
  • Every other weekend and holiday requirement
  • No call or standby requirement
  • RNs float to ER, med/surg, outpatients, and assist with pre and post-op on surgery days
  • Dress code is any color scrubs
  • One week of unit/department-specific orientation
  • RTO needed upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional RTO not approved after submission
  • Hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment; three shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
