Job Responsibilities

Supervise Engineering Technician staff with the review of Encroachment Permits including field reviews, plan reviews and construction inspection. Review plans/plats for coordination with engineering companies, property owners, and land developers in order to work through the permitting process. Conducts close coordination with District Engineers and Resident Maintenance Engineer for the review of plans for permits and final inspections. Ensure permitted work complies with SCDOT Specifications, Standards and policies. Meets with engineers/developers to resolve matters involving encroachment permits. Supervise and manage the collection of data for construction projects such as resurfacing, pavement markings, concrete sidewalk and pavement preservation in Beaufort County. Supervise and manage Beaufort Maintenance roadway inspections to include but not limited to night time, day time, guardrail, damage claim review and other in-house contracts. Perform on call and inclement weather duties when necessary. Acts as SCDOT liaison during inclement weather at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
