About The Role
The AFL Strategy function is responsible for setting the future direction for the AFL to make a positive and lasting impact for the game and community.
As a Strategy Lead, you will support major strategic initiatives, shape analysis underpinning key business decisions, and input into advice on major issues. You will team with strategy and other business areas in the delivery of key strategic projects, as well as lead the delivery of projects independently. This role provides an opportunity to gain broad experience across the AFL industry.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities
- Lead problem solving and analysis on key strategic issues for the AFL Commission, Executive and Senior Management, including coordinating analysis of core AFL performance data, development of insights and presentation of analyses to support decision-making by management
- Lead in key department projects, with the ability to work independently to deliver projects end-to-end and deliver significant workstreams on major cross-functional projects
- Support team with preparation of key presentations for industry engagement including Commission papers, CEO conferences and Club Presidents meetings
- Engage stakeholders across the business and build relationships to problem solve on complex strategic issues and identify emerging issues to support
- Assess high level financial attractiveness and run scenarios to test emerging business opportunities
- Proactively monitor customer, market and regulatory trends and develop strategic responses
- Actively build relationships across key stakeholders and business leaders across the AFL and Clubs to provide input and guidance into projects

- Works collaboratively with team of like-minded professionals to advance strategic thinking – sharing relevant perspectives, information and updates
- Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects and workstreams at one time.
- Strong relationship building, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
- Fast learner – developing strong understanding of the key industry dynamics that are critical to the success of the game
Mandatory
- 3-5 years in top tier management consulting firm or in house strategy for major organisation
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- Strong problem-solving skills, written and oral communication skills
- Experience in PowerPoint and Excel
Desirable
- Experience in media and entertainment, digital or retail industries
- Appreciation of sports, or interest in learning
