Job Description
We’re a small engineering team looking for a conscientious, quick-learning, generalist engineer who enjoys leading small to mid-sized projects for the benefit of veterinarians and pet-parents.
Some Projects You May Work On
- Medication Pouching for All: When we founded Koala, we introduced time-of-day, tear-off medication pouches to the veterinary world. Pouches are why we’re named Koala! But pouches are complex to get right and we treat them as a limited-availability, bespoke process. This year, we endeavor to make pouches available to all our customers by solving the relevant storefront and operational challenges.
- Prepping Med Orders from Clinic Appointments: By integrating with vets, we can remove the need to shop for medication online after a vet visit. This year, we’ll be working to prepare medication orders and recommendations for pet parents as soon as they check out at their vet. After a visit, pet parents should need just a couple clicks in their email for their meds to be on the way!
- Faster, Better, Safer Order Fulfillment: Behind the scenes, we’re always trying to find ways to make sure every pet gets the correct medication every time, on time. This year, we hope to make significant improvements to our process to streamline our fulfillment and prescription outreach while maintaining or improving our quality control
What You’ll Need
- 2+ years experience building web applications and APIs, as well as working with a relational database
- A strong “product-sense”: the willingness and ability to understand our business, stakeholders, and customers and consistently deliver code with the appropriate scope and quality for the underlying need
- Ownership and high standards: As a member of small but mighty team, you’ll have autonomy to design and develop significant new systems. We’re trusting you to think ahead, ask for help when you need it, and take initiative to fix anything that goes wrong down the road
- Dedication to learn quickly: We don’t have a lot of hard-skills requirements because we put a higher value on your ability to quickly learn our stack and tackle the new challenges endemic to a growing business
Our tech stack comprises Ruby on Rails & Postgres on the back-end and Typescript, React, & Next.js on the front-end. For this role, you’ll spend most of your time in Rails, but we do not require previous experience in Rails; only the ability to pick it up quickly! Skills in Javascript, Typescript, React, and Next.js are notable bonuses, but are also not required
Why You’ll Love Working At Koala
- You’ll find us a warm, pet-loving team who values teaching, learning, and helping each other out
- We are a remote-first company offering our employees the flexibility of working from home
- We offer a competitive salary and a chance to take part in the company’s success via equity
- We cover medical, dental, and vision insurance with partial coverage for your partner and dependent
- We offer generous PTO, a 401k retirement account, and any work-from-home tools & equipment you need to support your own office needs
We believe interviews are a two-way process: you’re interviewing us just as much as we’re interviewing you. We respect candidates by moving quickly and communicating clearly during the process. We want to see you at your best and will take steps within reason to make that happen.
We look forwards to meeting you!
