Character Designer – Unannounced Disney Series (Disney Television Animation)

About The Role & Team

We’re looking for an experienced Character Designer to join an unannounced series at Disney Television Animation!

What You Will Do

  • Further the storytelling process by developing the look, personality and feel of the characters, while aligning with the tone and style of the show.
  • Capture the personality and life of a character through their design and attire.
  • Create turnarounds, special poses, mouth charts, and expression sheets and provide a clean pass of the final approved design.
  • Work closely with the Art Director to review Storyboard for characters that need to be designed for each episode.
  • Ensure that the high quality and style of show established by the Executive Producer and Art Director is achieved and maintained.
  • Prepare all character designs for shipment to oversees vendor animation studios.
  • Work closely with Art Director to resolve design issues and deadlines.
  • Adhere to the production schedule provided by Line Producer to ensure cost effective, timely production.
  • Additional duties as necessary, or as defined by individual contracts.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • A robust character design portfolio that includes turnarounds, mouth charts, expression sheets, costumes, and special poses.
  • Proven ability to align with the style and sensibility of various shows.
  • Ability to translate reference into 2D or 3D art.
  • Knowledge of drawing software that includes Photoshop, Illustrator, and relevant 3D technology.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to take creative feedback and address notes.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a television animation pipeline

Education: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

Job Location: Onsite in Glendale, CA

The pay rate for this role in California is $56.88 to $60.33 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
