Job Purpose

To operate all maintenance aspects of power plant equipment & machinery from steam systems to coal feeding & ash management, by ensuring uninterrupted supply and increasing availability, ensuring plant safety and environmental compliance.

Job Context & Major Challenges

Job Context: Grasim Cellulosic Division (GCD) is a part of Pulp & Fibre business under Grasim Industries Ltd. The plant has been set up in GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) near Vilayat village of Bharuch Dist. (Gujarat) with the state-of-art technology to strengthen the global leadership position of the Aditya Birla Group in the man-made cellulosic fibres sector by providing customers with both standard fibres (Grey) as well as high-end speciality fibres (Modal & Micro-Modal)

The foundation of the plant was laid in June 2011 with an installed capacity of 360 TPD of Viscose Staple Fibre supported by 180 TPD Carbon Di-suplhide plant, 360 TPD Sulphuric Acid plant and 96 MW power plant having (3 X 32 MW Extraction CUM condensing STG + 3 X 175 TPH steam Boilers+ 1 X 200 TPH fuel handling plant+ 2 X 150m3/hr stream of D M Water plant).

The most modern technology of GCD, Vilayat plant gives it a competitive edge in the export market as its primary objective was to redefine the Cellulosic Fiber – in terms of quality, cost and its applications.

The Group’s Pulp and Fibre business is on top of the league in the VSF sector globally, factoring an aggregate view of its financials, margins, geographical spread, horizontal and vertical integration, product mix and market presence. With the capability to offer the entire range of Cellulosic fibre under the umbrella brand of “Birla Cellulose”, Grasim has positioned itself as a dependable supplier of Cellulosic fibers for “Feel, Comfort and Fashion” across global markets. To penetrate into niche market segments and to grow further, GCD has ventured into the production of high performance viscose fibers aptly named Modal & Micro Modal.

Attending breakdown of equipments timely and improving uptime of equipments.

implementing systems to enhance operational efficiency & availability of power plant

To ensure availability of all equipments for operation by following preventive maintenance schedule, spares & inventory management. (Maintenance of Boiler / Turbine / pumps/fans etc, coal handling and ash handling plant equipment fall under prime responsibility of the job.)

operating through best work practices, trouble shooting & preventive techniques.

  • Ensure Planned Maintenance & schedule of all the equipment and attending to the breakdowns of mechanical nature, analyze breakdown and to take corrective steps to prevent reoccurrences

KRA2

Reduction of maintenance duration

To reduce maintenance duration on critical equipments by suitable modifying the equipment / system or implying modern techniques / took for improving performance parameters of the equipment.

  • To ensure performance parameter of the equipment after maintenance work..
  • To ensure other team such as electrical, instrument also participate completion of preventive / breakdown jobs at parallel execution so as to minimize unavailability of equipment.

Improving asset utilization

Upgrade equipments by analyzing repeated break-downs and initiate corrective actions to eliminate root cause of failures.

take actions for timely replacement with help of Scientific Management programmes like MTBFs, best maintenance and operation practices

Explore available alernative possibilities and optimize item usage wherever feasible.

 Improve intrinsic and equipment efficiency of boilers and turbine system by looking into alternative solution

Maintaining equipment history in PM module.
