This position is 40 hours per week, working Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm in the Outpatient Clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating services including appointments at and referrals to Kennedy Krieger Institute and other healthcare facilities.
  • Liaise between staff, family, physicians, laboratory technicians, research investigators, nursing personnel, and other relevant staff as necessary.
  • Respond to requests from families and professionals for information, test results, etc., referring to other team members/sources, as needed.
  • Serve as primary contact and coordinator with a designated group of study patients.
  • Serve as resource to other team members in area of expertise.
  • Assist with data collection for studies. Interview patients, counsel patients as necessary, and coordinate sharing of information with other researchers as requested.
  • Obtain appropriate samples (e.g. blood, urine, tissue) and oversee delivery of samples to laboratories both internal at the Institute as well as to other outside researchers as appropriate.
  • Insert peripheral IV and administer medication and/or infusions per research protocol.
  • Accompany patients to scheduled tests as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support as an interdisciplinary team member to assist families with adjustment to illness and associated therapy regimens, research protocols, etc.
  • Adhere to Kennedy Krieger Institute’s requirements for mandatory annual in-services. Present an in-service annually to the Outpatient Nursing Department.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and Outpatient Department Nursing staff meetings.
  • Participate on a nursing committee (attend 75% of meetings, or routinely complete an assigned task for the committee/serve as a co-chair).
  • Participate in continuing review process of designated research study.
  • Maintain relevant documents needed for sponsor’s review, adverse reactions, and serious adverse reaction as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience and pediatric experience preferred and prior research experience preferred.

License: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license from Maryland or a compact state.

Certification: Current (BLS) CPR certification that included hands on skills and successful completion and maintenance of required research modules per the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program
