Job Description
Responsibilities
- Performs all activities necessary to process one or more bi-weekly payrolls for 600 to 800 student employees, which includes maintaining related records, filing tax reports, voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, and documenting and updating procedures
- Works with the Financial Aid Department to track and report Work Study dollars
- Assists the Payroll Manager in the bi-weekly payroll and monthly payroll for faculty and staff
- Greets and answers questions of student-employees in-person to provide a compliant and excellent customer service experience
- Distributes, instructs, collects, and enters new hire paperwork into the payroll system and properly audits the new hire paperwork for students to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Ensures the student employee and time approver is set up in the time entry system
- Processes I-9 forms through the E-Verify site
- Completes verifications of employment (VOE)
- Sends periodic email communication reminders on payroll deadlines to supervisors, staff, and students
- Provides faculty, staff, and students with excellent customer service on payroll questions and concerns
- Works cooperatively with Student Affairs, Professional Edge, and other departments concerning student payroll matters
- Trains student worker to assist with student payroll, student new hire data entry, and E-Verify
- Enters employee new hire information into HRIS
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or university helpful
- A minimum of one year of payroll experience and proficiency in using HRIS/Payroll systems and Microsoft applications required
- Higher education experience and experience working with Banner and Cognos software helpful
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) desired
