The Opportunity

Our Environmental Monitoring team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for an Environmental Technician – Climate and Air to join the team on full-time permanent basis (37.5 hrs per week) in our busy Dunedin office.

The purpose of this role is to conduct field measurements, field maintenance of the monitoring infrastructure, advise on environmental data sampling, as well as the validation and archiving of key environmental parameters. This information is used to inform the public and key stakeholders about the state of the environment in Otago and to enable the Council to make informed decisions.

As an Environmental Technician – Climate and Air, you will be responsible for:

  • Collecting, validating, and archiving environmental data
  • Collecting samples for analysis
  • Undertaking advanced problem solving of technical and environmental issues that affect the performance of equipment and sites
  • Providing technical advice on climate, air quality and groundwater monitoring to the group and other units within the organisation
  • Assisting in maintaining NEMS procedures

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary degree in Environmental Sciences, Geography/Geology, Biology/Chemistry related fields, or equivalent level of knowledge
  • A current full driver’s license
  • Four years’ experience in a similar position
  • Experience with time-series data processing techniques and construction of data collection platforms including telemetry systems
  • Experience related to installing and maintaining environmental monitoring equipment
  • Attention to detail, ability to accurately record actions/evidence
