Responsibilities
The Assistant Supervisor should be knowledgeable of an electronic health record (EHR), Epic preferred. Responsibilities include the management of the daily scheduling of the HIMS Specialist to include adjustments to staff work assignments as needed to cover peak periods, leaves and vacancies, to ensure maximum productivity and quality standards are met. As necessary, this individual will provide coverage in the event of backlogs, illness, vacation, or leave of absences of the HIMS Specialists. Responsible for training staff by providing coaching and mentoring as well as ongoing education due to regulatory changes.
Assists with preparing agendas and minutes for work unit huddles. Approves bi-weekly payroll and approval of PTO requests. In addition, the individual must be capable of training new employees or contract staff, and students in a qualitative and effective manner, supporting their team with technical advice, and responding to questions or concerns regarding regulatory compliance. Provides support to the HIMS Supervisor as needed.
Provides oversight of daily operations and staff within the work unit to support the institution and departmental directives. Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills and sound problem-solving skills. Supports continuous improvement efforts and quality improvement techniques. Suggests enhancements to workflow, productivity, shift changes and daily operations. Assists with statistical data for providers and leadership. May attend meetings on site or remotely as necessary with physicians, colleagues and allied health personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent required. Minimum of two years of health information experience required. Assistant Supervisors that work within HIMS Operations are required to have an Associate degree in a health care field or business with the required experience. In Documentation Services, experience with dictation, computer and transcription equipment is required.
Excellent customer service skills. None. Applicable AHIMA, HIMSS or AHDI credentials preferred
RHIT or RHIA certification preferred. At least 1-3 years of HIMS experience. Experience training, leading projects or presentations, meeting minutes preferred

Compensation Detail
$22.85 – $37.61 / hour; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
