This is a fixed-term post of 6 months.
The shift pattern for this position is Mon to Fri 08:30-19:30 (18.5 hours per week).
(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.
The opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Staff Nurse within the Paediatric haemato-oncology day unit Ward 2B Schiehallion Day Care, Royal Hospital for Children. The paediatric haematology/oncology unit provides a regional service for the treatment of childhood leukaemias as well as a range of other malignant and non-malignant hematological disorders and oncological conditions. We are the paediatric haematology and oncology reference centre for the West of Scotland. Furthermore, we provide a national service for Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant. We also host the Scottish Paediatric Molecular Radiotherapy service.
The Function Of The Day Care Ward Is To
- provide patient specific care to children requiring assessment
- investigations
- and treatment for various haematology and oncology conditions.
We provide specialised care for children requiring bone marrow transplant and follow up care for those who have been the recipient of the same. Admission via the day care unit can be both elective and emergency and we work closely with the paediatric haemato-oncology inpatient ward to facilitate excellent patient care. Treatment is provided to children ranging from birth to 18 years of age and we liaise closely with other Haematology /Oncology centers participating in shared care with other units to achieve best patient care delivery.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of excellent patient care within the clinical area in line with local policy.
This Will Require

- and evaluation of programs of care within the paediatric haematology/oncology remit.
They will play an active role in health promotion within this patient group and will provide holistic care to both patients and their families throughout their treatment. Duties will involve delivery of excellent patient care by managing and prioritising tasks alongside team members. SACT competence and knowledge of chemotherapy treatment protocols is essential. The ability to work closely with and educate families on their care and plan patient follow up appointments in line with individual patient protocols will be the post holder’s responsibility.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.
