Job Description

Project Brief

Project: The “Environmentally Sound Disposal and Recycling of E-Waste Project” promotes models for improved management of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) along the value chain. The project supports public actors at the national and local level to put in place a national E-Waste Management Scheme, helps recycling companies to develop new business models and comply with environmental regulations and provides technical training and organizational assistance to scrap dealers of the informal sector to build up their skills to dismantle E-Waste in an environmentally sound way.

Scope Of Role

As a communication specialist you are responsible for enhancing the visibility and impact by communicating effectively on the project’s strategy, activities and results. You will be responsible for designing communication tool targeted to different audiences, answer information requests in English language, prepare press declarations, media posts and publications, assist the M&E Specialist with monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management.

Tasks

  • Coordinate and steer all external and internal communications of the project in English language in line with GIZ corporate design guidelines and other orientations.
  • Ensure that corporate design guidelines are applied by all members of the project team and by external service providers.
  • Prepare or update communication tools (e.g. fact sheets, activity reports to doners, project presentations, media posts, press releases publications, speeches), help to prepare communication material for site visits by delegations, the country director or the German Ambassy.
  • Respond to all requests for information in English language concerning the project. This includes coordination with the GIZ Country Office in Ghana and GIZ’s Corporate Communications Unit in Germany.
  • Support the M&E Specialist with collecting data, preparing presentations and reports.
  • Prepare activity reports to partners and contribute to the preparation of communication products for events and steering committeemeetings.
  • Participate and contribute to the GIZ internal Communication Specialist Working Group and inform the project team on new orientations.
  • Build and maintain a data bases on service providers in the field of communication (journalist, editors etc.).
  • Support with knowledge management (documenting advisory approaches, record management)

Qualification Required & Experience

  • Master’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations or another relevant field.
  • Five years (and above) of professional experience in the field of corporate communications, preferably in an international organisation.
  • Excellent English language skills in writing and speaking; text editing skills, and professional experience in the filed of graphic design are of advantage.
  • Proven track record in developing high quality communication products for different target groups (print and digital) with visual elements

(e.g photo editing, graphic designs); experience with the preparation of information campaigns and audiovisual material are an advantage.

  • Proficiency in digital communication and social media management, strong ITC skills (MS Office, Excel, online communication tools.)
  • Professional experience in the field of Monitoring and Evaluation of projects an advantage.
  • Ability to make use of monitoring data for results communication and story telling.
  • Basic knowledge of notions such as “circular economy”, “urban mining”, e-waste management”.
  • Service-and client orientation, ability to work well in diverse, multi-national teams.
  • Excellent capacities to self-organise, ability to keep deadlines and deliver high quality work under time pressure
