The Role

The Senior Communications Adviser delivers innovative communications and media services that raise the profile of our key initiatives, investments and programs, making sure our stakeholders receive the right messages, through the right channels, at the right time.

The role involves working closely with policy teams to promote initiatives DJSIR is delivering to drive economic growth and job creation in Victoria. Help us shine a light on the government’s trade and investment opportunities that position Victoria as a key global exporter and investment destination. The applicant will need to be able to manage media and end-to-end communications for the portfolio and translate complex concepts into high impact human stories for a general audience in a fast-paced environment.

The Senior Communications Adviser will be working in a fast-paced and complex environment to manage media and issues for the portfolio and deliver end-to-end communications to promote Victoria’s TAFEs and the government’s investments and initiatives that are boosting the state’s skilled workforce and giving more Victorians opportunities to get the skills they need for the jobs they want.

The Team

The position of Senior Communications Adviser forms a part of the Strategic Communications branch within the Corporate Services group.

Strategic Communications is focused on building our department’s reputation and delivering on the DJSIR purpose by raising the profile of our key initiatives, investments and programs.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver high-quality, innovative media and communication strategies and materials including complex briefs, media releases, speeches, forewords and social media content through a variety of channels, on time, and with high-level attention to detail in a complex, sensitive and dynamic environment.
  • Strong experience providing expert communication and media advice and support to stakeholders at all levels, including ministerial offices and executives.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with an ability to build effective working relationships, provide advice on processes and policies, and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
