Job Overview
A new exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Operative working within the grounds and gardens at the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran.
The postholder will carry out maintenance of all grounds and garden functions relating to external cleaning within the hospital
grounds as directed.
They will be required to maintain the external areas to a high standard. Grounds’ duties to include grass & hedge cutting, pruning trees, litter picking, emptying external bins and other tasks as required working to a seasonal programme.
Main duties of the job
Maintaining the grounds in line with planned work issued. Including grass and hedge cutting, weeding, litter picking and removal
of rubbish around the site.
To put into practice, training and instruction given and carry out any task related to grounds, waste & recycling to contribute to the
efficient delivery of the Waste & Grounds Service.
To work in liaison with other members of Facilities & Estates to provide support in response to severe weather conditions e.g.,
snow clearance or gritting as directed by Management

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, systems and regulations gained through induction and on the job training over a number of weeks not months or equivalent experience
- Ability to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills (oral & written).
- Basic computer keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 2 knowledge e.g., C&G Certificate in Sustainable Waste Management or Gardening/Horticulture or demonstrable experience.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in similar conditions to a waste transfer store or grounds maintenance.
- Experience in the use of mechanical, gardening or recycling equipment.
- Good communication skills, both face to face & on a communications device.
- Experience of working as part of a team to meet common goals
Desirable criteria
- Experience of driving a Tug on a large busy site or willingness to train within a designated period
- Forklifts Truck operator licence (if not held, willingness to train as required.)
Skills and Attributes
Essential criteria
- Full valid UK Driving Licence (Cat B manual).
- Ability to walk long distances and be capable of carrying out a physically demanding occupation.
Desirable criteria
- To understand and observe the Data Protection Act and the need for confidentiality
- Health and Safety at Work, manual handling, COSHH Regulations, health and safety related risk assessments and basic life support training will be provided.
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh (please delete as appropriate)
