Job Overview

Join our dynamic team as a Part-Time Classroom Teacher for our innovative afterschool program, where you will play a crucial role in fostering academic success and personal growth in students from grades PK-5 throughout Southern Maine. We focus on engaging, hands-on STEAM activities that enhance essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow educators to design and implement an inspiring STEAM curriculum tailored to students’ interests and backgrounds while adhering to the objectives of the 21st Century grant.
  • Facilitate interactive, hands-on learning experiences that prioritize health, wellness, and safety guidelines.
  • Cultivate a nurturing, structured learning environment that promotes social and academic development for all students.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, guiding them toward healthy lifestyle choices and providing behavior management support as necessary.
  • Establish and uphold clear behavioral and learning expectations that align with elementary education standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive lesson plans and materials, including contingency plans for substitute teaching.
  • Accurately record and maintain attendance for each class and activity.
  • Engage in weekly team meetings to assess program delivery, explore areas for enhancement, and strategize future goals.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to refine teaching methodologies and align with program standards.
  • Maintain professional communication through timely responses to emails and other communication platforms.
  • Adhere to all program requirements, safety protocols, and best practices for both in-person and remote instruction.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or Director.

Required Skills

  • State of Maine Teaching Certification, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience teaching elementary-aged students, with a passion for inspiring children’s love for learning.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, Zoom, and other educational tools.
  • Flexibility and creativity in addressing challenges and adapting to evolving needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and low-performing student populations is advantageous, particularly with English Language Learners.
