Job Description

Job Purpose:

Suppresses fires, preserves life and property from the elements of disaster and renders medical care to sick and injured

Job Duties And Responsibilities:

(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)

  • Participates in fire company activities including fire suppression, rescue, public assistance, fire investigation, fire prevention, pre-fire planning, fire company training, public education, and routine maintenance of apparatus, equipment and fire department facilities
  • Performs rescues, fire suppression, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, medical aid and any other duties related to the preservation of life and property
  • Maintains basic knowledge of the duties of other personnel in the station
  • Performs duties of Acting Officer-In Charge when directed and if qualified
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge in data and information necessary to perform duties
  • Inspects and tests ambulance equipment
  • Completes appropriate medical reports
  • Maintains currency of all necessary certifications as required
  • Provides patient care and transportation of patients to appropriate medical facilities as needed
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Fire Captain

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience:

Essential:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • State of California Paramedic license in good standing
  • Successful completion of standard internal firefighter written test
  • San Diego County Paramedic accreditation in good standing
  • In-house Physical Abilities Test, CPAT, or Biddle Certificate
  • CA Driver’s License in good standing
  • BLS CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Cards

Desirable:

  • Hazmat FRO
  • 1 year paramedic experience
  • Firefighter exempt Ca Driver’s License in good standing
  • State Firefighter I Certification
  • Firefighter experience

Essential:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to pass annual BIA Pack Test to include donning a 45 pound hose pack (or equivalent) and walking a total of three (3) miles in 45 minutes or less
  • Ability to effectively communicate with department personnel
  • Ability to execute operational and procedural changes
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and assignments
  • Ability to complete forms, documents and written reports
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language

  • Ability to accept constructive criticism
  • Working knowledge of word processing programs
