Job Brief
The Resort Imam plays a crucial role in fostering the spiritual and religious well-being of the resort community, comprising staff and guests.
Duties and responsibilities are aligned to Imam accountability and expectations of the Imam in Muslim Communities.
Responsibilities and duties for this position shall include, but not be limited to, the following areas and activities. At management discretion, direction may be given for tasks outside the scope of work described.
- General:
- Responsible for leading the five prayers at the mosque.
- Responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance of the mosque, ablution area and the surrounding premises.
- To be punctual for prayer times and to call for prayers accordingly.
- To lead the team member in all religious formalities and special events/days throughout the year.
- Report any request for maintenance to the responsible person in the department.
- Maintenance of religious reading material within the mosque.
- Initiate religious activities during Ramadan
- Attend to meeting and briefing held by the department if required.
- Religious Leadership:
- Conduct all obligatory prayers (Salah) and lead Friday (Jumu’ah) prayers for staff and guests.
- Deliver Friday sermons (Khutbah) and special sermons during religious occasions such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha amongst others [MR1] .
- Provide Quranic recitation, Islamic lectures, and discussions for staff and interested guests.
- Observe and promote Islamic holidays, organizing activities or special events such as Iftar during Ramadan.
- Spiritual Guidance and Counseling:
- Offer individual spiritual counseling to staff and guests seeking guidance.
- Address concerns or questions about Islamic practices and principles in a non-judgmental manner.
- Support staff and guests in maintaining their religious obligations while staying at the resort.
- Community Engagement and Education:
- Organize educational sessions for staff, focusing on Islamic values, ethics, and personal development.
- Promote awareness among international guests about Maldivian Islamic culture in a respectful and approachable way.
- Actively participate in resort-organized cultural programs or events to represent Islamic traditions and Maldivian culture.
- Operational Support (as required):
- Assist in staff welfare and wellness initiatives, such as addressing moral or ethical concerns within the resort community.
- Contribute to the resort’s community-building efforts, including working as a Staff Welfare Attendant or assisting HR activities, when necessary.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain proper records of religious events and ceremonies conducted.
- Provide periodic reports to management regarding the spiritual well-being of the resort community.
- Liaise with government or local religious bodies to ensure compliance with Maldivian regulations regarding Islamic practices.
Qualifications
- Certification as a qualified Imam from a recognized Islamic institution or religious authority.
- Formal education in Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Quranic studies, and Hadith is preferred.
Experience Requirements: [MR2]
- A minimum of 1–3 years of experience as an Imam, ideally in a hospitality, resort, or multicultural environment.
- Previous experience leading prayers and providing spiritual guidance to diverse audiences.
Skills Requirements
- Proficient in Quranic recitation with Tajweed.
- Deep understanding of Islamic teachings, values, and principles.
Bilingual skills: Fluency in Dhivehi and English is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with people from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
