Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The AVP for Adult Learning Strategy will lead and design teaching and learning strategies, including “bridge” programs, for underemployed and unemployed adults to progress to achieve increased economic empowerment, credential attainment, and a career pathway in a growing occupational field. The position will work with CCWA leadership to adapt and adopt programs for adult learners to include core knowledge and skills, technical training, and employability skills development; with the colleges to create a pipeline of adult learning opportunities.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications

  • 5 years administrative experience in higher education, adult education, or workforce training
  • Experience developing training programs for adults
  • Experience teaching and assessing adults in a formal setting
  • Understanding of community college credit and non-credit academic structures
  • Experience hiring and managing faculty, preferably in a postsecondary environment
  • Experience building public/private training partnerships
  • Experience in developing grants and in assisting in fundraising
  • Understanding of community college governance and structure
  • Knowledge of federal and state workforce development partners, policy, and funding
  • Ability to maintain compliance in a public sector entity
  • Excellent communicator to all levels in public and private organizations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit

Additional Considerations

  • Earned graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in adult education or closely related field
