Brief Description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing efficient manufacturing processes to produce new and existing MSD proprietary designed high-quality downhole tools. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will focus on leveraging their technical expertise to optimize production, improve quality, and drive continuous improvement within the manufacturing facility. The Mechanical engineer is collaborating closely with product development engineers and quality control teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet stringent industry standards.

The Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering.

Detailed Description

  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes for new and existing products, including assembly procedures, machining operations, and testing protocols.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate manufacturing equipment, ensuring proper installation and calibration to maintain quality standards.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures within manufacturing processes to improve production efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor quality control procedures to ensure product conformance to specifications, identifying and addressing quality issues.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and inform process improvements.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product design engineers, quality engineers, and supply chain personnel to ensure smooth product transition from design to production.
  • Participate in new product development to provide design for manufacturability inputs.
  • Provides technical input related to products and performance, both internally and externally.
  • Supports and collaborates with other departments within the organization.

Job Requirements

  • Proven track record of innovative design solutions and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes like machining, assembly, and testing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to utilize Microsoft Office Software and other discipline specific-software applications to drive efficiency in productivity.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and written report preparation.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Able to effectively make technical decisions and manage change requests.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, think strategically and translate concepts into action plans and track results.
  • Ability to build engaging relationships at all levels of the organization as well as with customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet challenging deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Mechanical Engineer
  • Eligible to drive Company or personal vehicle for Company purposes including the ability to meet requirements of the Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation, or similar software
  • 3D CAD design experience

Additional Details

This job requires the ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines and maintain a calm and professional demeanor when adversity is encountered. It also requires the physical ability to work in an office environment including the ability to sit for long periods of time while performing office or computer tasks as well as interact in a manufacturing shop environment. The job may require some overtime. All applicants must be able to commit to a full-time schedule.
